Furniture & Joinery

Furniture and fitted pieces are for living with, both indoors and out. These objects are very useful, quietly beautiful, and made to last from strong, unique materials. My focus is on purposeful design, honest construction, and a timeless feel, whether it’s a garden bench or a hall cabinet.

What Is It?

What I Make

My work centres on movable, freestanding pieces designed to find a home with you. This includes indoor and outdoor tables, benches and seating, lighting, sideboards, shelves and storage. Or you may prefer occasional pieces like stools and side tables. I can also do commissioned work for specific needs or spaces.

How Its Shaped

Every piece starts with the wood and its purpose. I select timber for its stability, grain, and suitability. It may be ash for a tabletop or oak for a garden bench. Construction is traditional and robust, with classic joints, solid panels, and precise detailing. The process is a balance of careful planning and responsive making. This allows the material’s nature to influence the final form.

Thought Behind It

Good furniture should do its job without effort and feel solid, rooted in its space. I design for longevity, clean lines, and quiet presence. The aim is a piece that feels inherently right. A table that gathers people comfortably. A bench that invites a moment of rest. Or a cabinet that organises a room with a simple form. It’s about creating heirlooms in the making, not items only for the present.

Where It Fits

This work fits wherever life happens: in homes, gardens, studios, and community spaces. It’s for those who value how something is made and how it feels to use. It could be a dining table for daily meals or outdoor benches for chatting in a shared garden.

Overview

What I make is built for the long run. This work begins with the understanding that the best furniture doesn’t just fill a space. It becomes a part of the rhythm of a home or garden. Every table, bench, or shelf is designed as a steadfast companion to daily life. I then shape by hand to be both useful and grounding. My focus is on creating pieces with a sense of integrity and presence. This comes from a commitment to solid timber, joined with strength and intention. It's then finished to show the honest character of the wood. I choose materials that last and improve over time. They develop a soft patina from sunlight, use, and care. The goal is for a piece to feel even more settled and essential as the years pass, becoming Wabi-sabi. This making is all about connection. It’s the weight of a table that gathers people, the comfort of a bench shaped for conversation, or the quiet reliability of a shelf that holds your things. I hope each piece I make in my workshop starts as a new addition but becomes a lasting, familiar presence. A reminder that what we use should be thoughtful, durable, and a meaningful part of our story.
