About Me

I’ve always loved the way wood can fit into a landscape, like it was always meant to be there.
After years building with Robinia for schools and playgrounds, I’ve shifted toward outdoor carpentry. I want things to last, but also to feel like they belong.
Right now, we need nature more than ever. I hope my work helps people slow down, explore, and feel connected to the ground beneath their feet.
Every piece I make is shaped by the place it’s in. I believe good design shouldn’t force itself on nature—it should grow with it, belong there, and last.
My Service

01
CAD Design
Every project begins with a conversation. Using CAD modelling and sketches, I turn ideas into clear visuals and workable plans. Collaboration is key. From first concepts through to technical detailing. I ensure the design feels at home in its surroundings and true to its purpose.

02
Fabrication
The workshop uses a mix of traditional carpentry and more modern processes, such as CNC. This approach allows for precision in detail and freedom in form. From bespoke one-offs, accurate repeat design or larger structural builds.

03
Resources
I work with natural materials, keeping a regular stock of robinia poles and sawn timber. Access to milled slabs and offcuts is hand-chosen from the local sawmill. Finishes are simple and ecological, highlighting the wood’s tone and longevity.

04
Delivery
Each project requires installation or delivery. On-site, attention to ground conditions, access, and setting is considered. Lead times vary by scale and season. I'll plan every step to ensure a smooth transition from workshop to landscape. Being smaller scale allows flexibility when others cannot meet a deadline.

Why Robinia?
A big part of why I work with robinia is simple: it's tough as nails and built to last outdoors.
Unlike a lot of timber in the UK, it can stand up to our weather without the need for harsh chemicals or constant upkeep. It’s incredibly hard, naturally rot-resistant, and seems to just get better with age.
So when I build something with it, I know it's not just beautiful right now, it'll still be a solid, graceful part of the landscape for years to come.

Over time, exposure to sunlight causes Robinia to weather naturally, developing a silver-grey patina typical of most timbers.
Frequently Asked Questions
How sustainable are you?
Sustainability is a core principle of my practice. I only source FSC-certified timbers. Much of my work uses Robinia, a very fast-growing and durable species. I buy wood through two small-scale, dedicated local sawmills. U.E.F supplies a large variety of timber from sustainable local clearings. Their unique on-site kiln methods allow for beautiful large, stabilised slabs. The other deals only in timber from dead-felled or storm-fallen trees. This approach minimises waste and ensures a responsible, low-impact material cycle.
What does Robinia class mean?
Robinia has a durability rating of Class 1-2 (EN 350). This assesses the natural preservative compounds in heartwood. Because it's a natural material, individual trees vary in growth, which is why it gets a dual rating. In practice, commercial Robinia for outdoors is of high quality and performs at the top end of Class 2 or in Class 1. This means it can last 25+ years or more in ground contact without any chemical treatment. That's something most timbers can't achieve even with treatment.
Why does my product look different from photos?
Each piece, crafted from solid wood, is a natural material with its own unique character. You will see variation in grain, colour, knots and movement. This is fundamental to working with a living material. These are hallmarks of a genuine craft, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Each embraces the timber's history, rather than a flaw and proves its authenticity. This natural variation distinguishes handcrafted work from the uniformity of mass production. While I'm careful to make each piece, slight differences in tolerances are unavoidable. These are hand-finished products, and visible joinery is a staple feature of this.
Do these require much maintenance
I design for minimal maintenance and supply specific care instructions with your product. For outdoor pieces made from Robinia, you need no treatments. This stands even for items in ground contact. Its natural durability ensures it ages gracefully. Some products feature specialist, heritage-based treatments. These last for years without upkeep. I will state this clearly if it applies. Beyond that, please enjoy the wood's natural ageing process.
How long does it take to complete a project?
The timeline for each project depends on its specific requirements and scale. A smaller piece may take a few weeks, while a larger commission could span several months. This can also vary depending on the workshop schedule. This allows for a considered design, a careful build, and selecting the right timber stock. I will always discuss a clear, realistic timeframe with you before we begin. I’ll also continue to keep you updated throughout the process, until the point of delivery.
What happens if something doesn’t perform as expected?
If an issue should occur, please let me know as soon as you notice it. I'm dedicated to understanding the problem and finding a fair resolution. I take full responsibility for my work. Each piece carries a specific guarantee that I stand by. My goal is to handle any concerns through clear communication and practical solutions. I’m here to ensure you have confidence in every piece, so let’s talk first and work it out together.
